He Urges Florida Senators To Pass The Bill Too
Iggy Pop throws his support behind the Big Cat Public Safety Act and urges Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott to pass the bill. The proposed legislation would serve to protect tigers and other big cats from animal abuse by preventing private ownership, direct public contact, and dangerous interactions such as “cub petting” which is pretty common in zoos. This act garnered traction because of the Netflix documentary Tiger King released last March.
Because of the increasing support, more than half the House of Representatives are already co-sponsors.
In a statement, Pop said: “The Big Cat Public Safety Act, which has bipartisan support in both the house and senate, is aimed at protecting big cats from abuse and neglect by prohibiting private possession of these wild animals, and banning risky public encounters with them. Co-sponsoring this commonsense bill will show the Senators’ commitment to the safety of Floridians and respect for exotic wildlife.”
Pop also signed a petition for Congress to pass the act – it’s co-authored by Blackfish director Gabriela Cowperthwaite and the Animal Legal Defense Fund. Other celebrities who signed it include Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Edie Falco, and Hilary Swank.
