March 8th Marks The Monkee’s 71st Birthday

Today, the multitalented Micky Dolenz of The Monkees celebrates his 71st birthday. Born March 8th, 1945 in Los Angeles, Dolenz rose to fame as a child actor and singer before being cast as the wisecracking drummer and sometimes lead singer for The Monkees in 1965 and played an integral role in the band being able to record their own original material for the first time.

While this year marks 71 years of life for Dolenz, it also marks the 50th anniversary of his debut with The Monkees – a celebration marked by a 50th anniversary tour with bandmate Peter Tork and Good Times!, The Monkees’ first album since 1997’s Just Us.
