Las Vegas, 2016
Last summer, Guns N’ Roses kicked off their highly anticipated reunion dates with an explosive show at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena full of the magic, attitude, and non-stop good times that you’d expect from these newly reunited LA rockers. With a setlist that included smash hits like “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Paradise City,” Guns N’ Roses rocked the crowd of nearly 20,000 and at one point took the night in a direction that rock fans haven’t seen in two decades; during a lull in the show as Axl prepared for “November Rain” backstage, guitarists Slash and Richard Fortus teamed up for a stunning take on Pink Floyd’s iconic “Wish You Were Here,” bringing the crowd to its feet but instead of the cell phones we’re used to seeing, there were lighters in the air!
Fun Fact: Guns N’ Roses took in a whopping $6 million USD for those two Vegas shows alone.
The fun doesn’t stop with Slash and Richard trading licks for this classic, though; at one point, Axl and his grand piano rejoin the band and launch into “Layla” by Derek & The Dominos. Guys, we won’t lie – this alone is our favorite part of this footage! Suddenly it’s just Slash, Axl, and Duff gathered around the piano and it makes you really, really appreciate the work Guns N’ Roses have put into this reunion, and somehow we think that for these three this little classic rock jam session must have been one of the most triumphant moments of the tour.
