Hits, Awards, and Lasting Influence
Together, the pair helped create many of Benatar’s best-known songs, including “Love Is a Battlefield,” “Heartbreaker,” and “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.” Their creative partnership has remained central to her sound since the start of her career.
Benatar earned the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Performance four years in a row from 1981 through 1984, a rare achievement that placed her among the most recognized rock vocalists of that era.
Music and Meaning Beyond the Stage
Outside of music, Benatar and Giraldo have spent years supporting humanitarian efforts. They have worked with WhyHunger for more than three decades, inspired by their friendship with the group’s co-founder, Harry Chapin. Their efforts focus on children’s causes and long-term hunger solutions.
Over the summer, the couple received the ASCAP Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award for their ongoing advocacy. Reflecting on the honor, they said, “The evening was filled with love, hope, and good humans dedicated to the service of others. We’re in this together, and together we can make miracles happen,” according to Live for Live Music.
