Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony, 1998

Hot on the heels of their 1997 breakup and reunion a year later, Fleetwood Mac received rock’s highest honor when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in early 1998. To mark the occasion, the Rumours era lineup took the stage that night for a performance of ‘Say You Love Me’ that left the audience marveling at the fact that they sounded even better then than when they appeared on the scene 20 years prior.

This was to be one of Christine McVie’s final appearances with Fleetwood Mac before her 10 year retirement from the band, and unsurprisingly, it’s one of her best! She’s got a quiet command of the stage, with everyone else following her lead – and if Lindsey Buckingham’s banjo solo doesn’t get you, then the band’s rock solid harmonies definitely will.

The band have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time.

This rendition of ‘Say You Love Me’ is one of our absolute favorites! Fleetwood Mac always has such a fantastic time onstage together, and to see them together for such a momentous occasion is nothing short of a treat. There’s a reason why they’re one of the most successful bands in the business, and this performance explains it all!

+ Say You Love Me lyrics +

Have mercy, baby on a poor girl like me,
You know I’m falling, falling, falling, at your feet,
I’m tingling right from my head to my toes,
So help me, help me, help me make the feeling go.

‘Cause when the loving starts, and the lights go down,
And there’s not another living soul around,
Then you woo me until the sun comes up,
And you say that you love me.

Have pity baby,
Just when I thought it was over,
Now you got me running, running, running for cover.
I’m begging you for a little sympathy,
And if you use me again it’ll be the end of me.

‘Cause when the loving starts, and the lights go down,
There’s not another living soul around,
You woo me until the sun comes up,
And you say that you love me.

Baby, baby, hope you’re going to stay away,
‘Cause I’m getting weaker, weaker, everyday,
I guess I’m not as strong as I used to be,
And if you use me again it’ll be the end of me.

‘Cause when the loving starts, and the lights go down,
There’s not another living soul around,
You woo me until the sun comes up,
And you say that you love me.

‘Cause when the loving starts, and the lights go down,
Yhere’s not another living soul around,
You woo me until the sun comes up,
And you say that you love me.
Say that you love me
Say that you love me

Fallin’ fallin’ fallin’
Fallin’ fallin’ fallin’
Fallin’ fallin’ fallin’
Fallin’ fallin’ fallin’
Fallin’ fallin’ fallin’
