After months of complaining about the lockdown restrictions, canceled shows, and Covid-19 vaccines, Eric Clapton is finally doing something he’s not going to get any hate for — he’s back to making music. He recently released his latest album titled “The Lady in the Balcony: Lockdown Sessions.”
He previewed the LP with a live performance of his classic hit “Layla.”
“In February 2021 Eric Clapton’s live shows at The Royal Albert Hall were canceled due to the global pandemic,” the video description read. “Determined to play, he brought his band together in the English countryside. In the absence of a live audience, he decided to record the performances. This release is the culmination of their sessions together at Cowdray House, West Sussex, England.”
When Clapton and his bandmates — Steve Gadd, Nathan East and Chris Stainton — staged their own concert, their only attendee was Clapton’s wife Melia. And yes, she inspired the title “Lady in the Balcony.”
Even though Clapton has made several questionable choices and statements these past few months, it’s hard to deny that he still has it. The guitar playing, his vocal performance — there’s so much to love about this version. Watch it below and let us know what you think.
