The Case Has Been Settled

Elton John has settled his legal dispute with ex-wife Renate Blauel over his autobiography “Me” and biopic “Rocketman.” This comes following Blauel’s lawsuit which she filed in June claiming that the mention of her in both works breached the terms of an agreement made after they divorced in 1988. She sought for damages and costs at $3.9 million.

John’s lawyers argued that the details included were public knowledge and that their contract “applies only to private and confidential matters.” But now, the case has been settled amicably.

A spokesman said in a statement, “The parties are happy to announce that they have resolved this case, in a way that acknowledges Renate’s need for privacy. For her part, Renate acknowledges that Elton has acted in a dignified and respectful way towards her in the last 30 years and has been always happy to help her. They will not be discussing each other, or their marriage, in future and will be making no further comment about the case.”

Elton John and Renate Blauel met in 1983 and married in Australia a year later. After their split in 1988, she avoided the public eye and even moved to a small village located in England.
