He Pointed Out How They Profited From His Biopic

Elton John has just called out the Vatican for their ‘hypocrisy.’

On Monday, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) office reaffirmed their regressive stance against same-sex unions, saying that God “does not and cannot bless sin”. And although Pope Francis expressed his support to the LGBTQ community in the past, he approved the recent CDF declaration.

Following this, several celebrities and public figures took to social media to air out their outrage and disappointment over the Catholic Church’s stubborn position on gay marriage.

However, it was Elton John’s post that got everyone talking. He wrote, “How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they ‘are sin,’ yet happily make a profit from investing millions in ‘Rocketman’ – a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David??”

The Elton John biopic bagged several awards and made almost $200 million at the box office. The film featured male gay sex on the big screen which clearly contradicts the Church’s conservative views. Vatican’s Secretariat of State reportedly helped fund Rocketman, investing about one million euros on it. Ever since that particular bit of news came out, the Vatican neither confirmed nor denied any of the report.
