David Lee Roth recently teased the rumored Van Halen tribute project and dropped some hints on what to expect from him after his cancelled farewell residency in Las Vegas.

The rocker was recently spotted at LAX by a Fox News reporter, who asked him whether he was thinking about touring again anytime soon and he said:

“There’s always a tomorrow for a singer, not so much for a trombone player these days.

“How many times did Rocky retire? Seven. I think number 3 was my favorite. How many times did Rambo have to come out of retirement in order to make the sequel?”

When asked about the possible Van Halen tribute, Roth acknowledged the prospect saying:

“Yea, I wrote the songs, I was the one who named the band. Are you talking about a tribute to me? I like the sight of you!”

Even though he didn’t confirm if he is taking part on the all-star tribute to Van Halen, Roth confirmed that something was brewing. He said:

“Absolutely. I’m only in the middle of my first retirement. I’m at the point now where I’m making sure the entire world knows I’m not talking! We’re good.”

Should Roth get back performing for the Van Halen tribute tour, he will be joined by Alex Van Halen, Joe Satriani, and Michael Anthony, who confirmed last month that he’s indeed been talking to Roth and Van Halen regarding a reunion for over a year.

Roth first addressed the tribute concept in a brief statement in April, saying:

“In my mind, ‘Van Halen 4K,’ in the age of COVID is going to require two of us for every position. Satriani and [Steve] Lukather, Anthony and Newsted, Al or Tommy Lee.”
