David Crosby Shares Why He Sold His Publishing Rights

He Said, “Emotionally, It Sucked”

In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, David Crosby talked about why he decided to sell his music catalogue back in March to Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group. The coronavirus pandemic hit musicians hard and most of them struggled financially especially those who expected to earn from touring. Crosby was one of those who planned to hit the road when the global health crisis temporarily shut down live music.

“Well here’s what happened; no money from streaming so no money from records,” Crosby explained, “so I was trying to be grateful that I could still go out and work, pay the rent and take care of my family.”

“I sold my publishing to our pal Irving. He’s been my friend for a long time,” he continued. “He gave me a ton of money. I paid off the house. You should’ve seen my wife’s smile when I told her I paid off the house.’

“Emotionally, it sucked. It wasn’t good at all,” he concluded. “But it solved my problem and it made me able to take care of my family, and they really matter to me.”

Even so, Crosby is still working on several other projects such as new music and a documentary film.
