Dave Mustaine Talks Life After Megadeth

As he looks toward life beyond the road, Dave Mustaine has begun discussing what the future might hold once Megadeth completes its farewell tour. In a statement shared with Classic Rock, the longtime metal icon revealed that acting and mentoring musicians could become central parts of his next chapter.

Exploring a New Path in Acting

Mustaine expressed interest in developing his acting skills and potentially pursuing more roles on screen. The musician pointed to his previous appearances on television as evidence that he already feels comfortable working in front of cameras.

“I wouldn’t mind studying acting,” he said. “I’ve already done a ton of stuff on TV – hosting game shows, appearances in small sitcoms and movies – so I’m very accustomed to being in front of the camera. I think that might be fun to do.”

He added that he would even consider altering his signature look for the right role.

“If they asked me to cut my hair, I’d be willing to do it! But it would have to be for a guaranteed part – and a big part, to make that kind of a commitment!”

Among his earlier television projects, Mustaine hosted the G4 program Guitar Gods and has made several cameo appearances across different shows and films. Those experiences, he noted, helped familiarize him with on-camera performance.

Sharing Knowledge With Fellow Musicians

Beyond acting, Mustaine also spoke about his desire to pass along the knowledge he has gained during decades in the music industry. Mentoring, he said, could involve working with musicians of any age who want to better understand his creative process.

“I really want to share my gift with younger musicians,” he explained. “Actually, it doesn’t even have to be a younger musician. [If] it’s somebody that’s a little bit older and they want to learn what it is that makes Dave tick, I don’t care about their date of birth, I just want to be able to share. I’ve been gifted [from God]. I wouldn’t be this good on my own.”

Such efforts could take the form of masterclasses, private instruction, or even digital platforms designed to give aspiring artists direct access to established performers.

Following a Familiar Path for Musicians

Musicians crossing over into acting is hardly unprecedented. Artists such as David Bowie—who starred in the film The Man Who Fell to Earth—and Justin Timberlake, known for his role in The Social Network, have demonstrated how established performers can successfully expand into film and television.

For Mustaine, the transition would come after more than four decades of influence in thrash metal, during which Megadeth built a formidable reputation through a string of acclaimed albums and global tours. With that legacy already firmly established, the guitarist appears ready to explore new creative directions—whether on screen or in guiding the next generation of musicians.
