Stradlin Closes Out Busy Year With Classic Cover
Christmas may be less than a week away but for fans of former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin, one gift showed up a little earlier as Stradlin released his cover of “Call Me The Breeze”. Written and recorded by late legend J.J. Cale, “Call Me The Breeze” has received the rock and roll royal treatment from some of rock’s most celebrated sons – from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Cale’s own friend Eric Clapton, it would appear that we’ve heard this 1972 classic in every way possible – that is, until Izzy got his hands on it and transformed it into something easy, breezy, and almost unrecognizable.

Featuring the talents of vocalist Lauren Barth and guitarist Jesse Aycock, Stradlin’s slide heavy take on “Call Me The Breeze” hits you like a calm breeze instead of the whirlwind you’ve come to know and love, breathing new life into a song that set the bar impossibly high for musicians and in an era where artists are too concerned with trying to reinvent the wheel in a way that doesn’t honor the originals, Izzy Stradlin’s cover is both a breath of fresh air and a fitting tribute to J.J. Cale’s legacy.
