She Recorded Nine Songs
Pretenders singer and frontwoman Chrissie Hynde has just announced a Bob Dylan covers album titled “Standing in the Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan”, due out on May 21 via BMG. Like most artists who released or are set to release new records this year, Hynde revealed that she recorded the LP during the lockdown along with her Pretenders bandmate James Walbourne.
Interestingly, the pair collaborated “almost entirely by text message”. Walbourne would record his idea on his phone and send it to Hynde. Hynde would then add her vocals.
“A few weeks into lockdown last year, James sent me the new Dylan track โMurder Most Foul.โ Listening to that song completely changed everything for me,” Hynde said in a statement. “I was lifted out of this morose mood that Iโd been in. I remember where I was sitting the day that Kennedy was shot โ every reference in the song.”
“Whatever Bob does, he still manages somewhere in there to make you laugh because as much as anything, heโs a comedian,” she added. “Heโs always funny and always has something to say. Thatโs when I called James and said, โLetโs do some Dylan coversโ and thatโs what started this whole thing.”
The songs were mixed by Tchad Blake who previously worked with U2, Fiona Apple, and Arctic Monkeys.
The 9-track LP will be accompanied by “Tomorrow Is A Long Time” – a film that features the entire recording process.
