She Nailed It
American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson just tipped her hat to former American Idol judge Steven Tyler by covering an Aerosmith classic hit on the “Kellyoke” segment of “The Kelly Clarkson Show”. She took on “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” and she killed it. Her vocals, attitude, and stage presence – it’s a fiery and energetic rock ‘n roll performance.
This isn’t the first time she covered an Aerosmith song. She previously sang “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” “Cryin'” and “Dream On” for “Kellyoke” last year. Watch it below, it’s going to blow you away.
“Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” was first released as a single from Aerosmith’s 1987 album “Permanent Vacation”. It was a mainstream success and became one of the band’s most enduring songs. According to Desmond Child who co-wrote it, Tyler got the idea after mistaking Mötley Crüe’s lead singer Vince Neil for a woman at a bar.
Joe Perry came up with the riff and in one interview, he revealed that he was going for a bit of an AC/DC sound. When Tyler began singing “cruisin’ for the ladies”, it was Child who disagreed with the lyrics and said: “I don’t think Van Halen would put that on the B-side of their worst record.”
