He’s Urging Everyone To Boycott It Via An Online Petition

Brian Wilson openly opposed Mike Love’s Beach Boys Show at the Safari Club International Convention in Reno, Nevada on February 5. He sent out a pair of tweets directing fans to sign a petition on Change.org and calling for them to boycott the said gig so it will be canceled.

He wrote, “It has been brought to my attention that on Wednesday, Feb. 5, the Beach Boys touring group licensed by Mike Love are headlining at the Safari Club International Convention in Reno, Nevada.

“This organization supports trophy hunting, which both [bandmate Al Jardine] and I are emphatically opposed to. There’s nothing we can do personally to stop the show, so please join us in signing the petition.”

Meanwhile, Mike Love responded with: “We look forward to a night of great music in Reno and, as always, support freedom of thought and expression as a fundamental tenet of our rights as Americans.”

Animal rights groups have been protesting against The Safari Club International Convention which is being held annually. The event is condemned for selling “trophy hunting holidays and wildlife body parts” and for spending “$140 million since 2000 lobbying against laws to stop trophy hunting – or what it calls “protecting the freedom to hunt”.” This year’s keynote speaker is Donald Trump Jr.

As of this writing, over 68,000 have signed the petition.
