In a recent Instagram post for the New Year, Queen guitarist Brian May took a moment to share the advice he would offer his younger self.

Accompanied by a throwback photo, he mused on the peculiar time between Christmas and New Year, leaving a message of caution and care:

“It’s a funny old time between Christmas and New Year, ain’t it? Bri X (Thank you to the brilliant Sarah Rugg for capturing my mood so perfectly). I’m wondering what advice I’d give to this younger me if I had the chance. Take care out there. Keep yer powder dry!”

A Tribute to a Lost Friend

Reflecting on the past year, May experienced both sorrow and pride. He sadly bid farewell to his long-time friend and driver, Phil Webb, who passed away from a heart attack. May expressed his grief and deep respect for Webb on Instagram, stating:

“This is one of the saddest days of my life.”

Phil, May’s dedicated driver for over three decades, was not only a close friend but also a cherished protector. May described him as the kindest and most decent man he had ever met. The heartfelt message continued, acknowledging the devastation felt by all who knew Phil and expressing love and pride for the life he led.

Royal Honor

On a brighter note, May received a knighthood from King Charles III, now being referred to as Sir Brian. This prestigious title was bestowed upon him in recognition of his contributions to music and charity. May shared his joy on Instagram, reminiscing about playing music on the roof of Buckingham Palace for a special event. He expressed gratitude for the honor but humorously mentioned he wouldn’t attempt such a performance again.

Looking Ahead

Amidst his achievements, May hinted at upcoming projects. He teased a new documentary collaboration with Tony Iommi, focusing on guitar riffs. Additionally, he alluded to the possibility of new music with Queen and Adam Lambert, expressing optimism about future collaborations despite their busy schedules.

May’s New Year message reflects a blend of personal reflection, heartfelt tributes, and a glimpse into exciting prospects for the future. To see the shared photo and stay updated on his journey, you can visit his Instagram.
