Christie Brinkley is reaching out with warmth and well-wishes for her ex-husband, Billy Joel, following news of his recent health diagnosis. The former supermodel took to Instagram to share her support for the music legend, who was recently diagnosed with a brain condition. Brinkley and Joel were married from 1985 to 1994 and share a daughter, Alexa Ray, now 39.
Sending Some Love to The Piano Man
She wrote:
“The whole Brinkley gang is sending you lots of love and good wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
“I was looking for some cute photos of you and Alexa to send you, when I came across this clip from a recent concert. It made me laugh… but it also reminded me of all the joy you create, and all the sensational sing a longs you’ve lead. You turn an arena of strangers into a living room full of friends as we all sway in unison.”
Brinkley also shared this encouragement:
“I’m sure I’m speaking for everyone in that room when I say please take good care of yourself. We all want you back in that white hot spotlight. You’re OUR piano man. And we’re always in the mood for your melodies And we all hope you’re feeling alright! We Love You, the kids, me and an arena or two!”
Joel’s Recent Diagnosis and Show Cancellations
Brinkley’s post came shortly after Billy Joel publicly revealed he’s been diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain disorder that affects thinking, mobility, and bladder control. Due to the symptoms, which worsened during recent concerts, Joel canceled all upcoming tour dates. His team shared online:
“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance.”
Taking Time to Recover
Joel is currently undergoing focused physical therapy and, under medical advice, will not be performing for now. His team says he’s thankful for the excellent care he’s receiving and is fully committed to his recovery. The statement read:
“He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage.”
Joel also shared a heartfelt note:
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”
