Vince Gill Reveals Struggle Performing At The Sphere

Vince Gill, the longtime country star and member of the Eagles since 2017, recently opened up about the unexpected challenge of performing at Las Vegas’ mind-blowing venue, the Sphere. In a conversation on the Shred With Shifty podcast hosted by Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett, Gill shared that while the Sphere is visually stunning, it’s not exactly easy to play in.
“I try to ignore it,” Gill said of the venue’s dazzling visuals. “I try not to watch any of the content, because it’s pretty distracting. And it makes me get a little bit wobbly. Things are moving and tilting, and it’s pretty neat.”
“It’s the Most People I’ve Ever Been Ignored By”
Despite the excitement surrounding the venue’s tech wizardry, Gill admits it comes at a cost to performers. He said:
“I jokingly tell people it’s the most people I’ve ever been ignored by at a gig.
“But you know, they’re there to see the bells and whistles, and that’s the point of it all.”
Gill said the immersive experience has occasionally caused him to miss his cues. “I’ll find myself, if I start watching it, forgetting to come back in and sing,” he confessed. And, surprisingly, he’s not the only one distracted by the visuals. Joe Walsh also jokes about the ultra-clear display. “Joe always says every night, he says, ‘I look back and I never knew how big my nose was.’”
More Shows Ahead for the Eagles and Gill
The Eagles kicked off their Sphere residency in September 2024 and have already played 32 shows there. Other shows that are keeping Vince Gill busy? Fans can catch him as he heads out on a solo tour this summer, but he’ll return to the stage with Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, and Deacon Frey for the final round of Sphere performances later this fall.
