Can’t Wait Till Love Comes To Town!

“When Love Comes to Town” was a collaboration between U2 and B.B. King. The band had great admiration for The King and he was a huge influence to them. It was recorded at the Sun Studio in Memphis. It was a massive hit following its release and became part of the track list in 46 live performances. Up until this day, this song is a classic favorite of B.B. King’s fans.

This blues rock has dominated the charts several times:

  • Peaked at number 1 in the Irish Singles Chart
  • Reached number 6 in the UK Singles Chart
  • Ranked number 2 in the US Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart
  • Was at number 10 in the Dutch Top 40 Chart

On the next tour, 1992-93’s Zoo TV Tour, “When Love Comes to Town” did not debut until the second-last concert of the first leg on 21 April 1992 in Tacoma. It appeared only infrequently on the second leg, in Europe, but on the third leg, in North America, it was performed frequently and this was continued on the fourth leg return to Europe. The Zoo TV Tour version of the song was stripped down in comparison to previous versions and was performed on a b-stage in the midst of the crowd. U2 has not performed the song since the fourth leg’s final show on 28 August 1993 in Dublin, although B.B. King has continued to play the song at his live shows.

This duet resulted in new fans for B.B. King in the “pop” community and served as a major career boost. It was also one of his biggest hits in the United Kingdom.
