Janis Joplin was more than an amazing voice — she has also greatly influenced several music artists for generations. Her fame skyrocketed when she performed during the Monterey Pop Festival – she became one of the main artist to see at Woodstock.

Joplin did not write many songs; but mostly interpreted other people’s. She made them her own in a way few singers dare to do.

Throughout her entire career, she became the lead singer of several bands:

• Big Brother and the Holding Company
• The Kozmic Blues Band
• The Full Tilt Boogie Band

Janis always had an electric presence every time she sang onstage. But, it didn’t end there. She was also a multi-instrumentalist.

Janis Joplin was perhaps the premier blues-influenced rock singer of the late Sixties, and certainly one of the biggest female rock stars of her time.
