Straight-up Rockers

Bachman–Turner Overdrive, often shortened to BTO, had a series of hits in the 1970s. Their more popular songs still receive airplay from classic rock radio stations so for this list, we’re going for those that are just as good but didn’t get enough appreciation. They may have been predictable and seldom took risks when it came to music, but at least they were a reliable institution.

Not everyone remembers these Canadian rockers and their tunes so let’s take a trip down memory lane with these five tracks.

5. Four-Wheel Drive (Four Wheel Drive, 1975)

This title track to their fourth studio album is fiery and blistering. It’s neither groundbreaking nor innovative but it sticks. It takes you back to the songs and sounds of the ’70s. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a big hit but it’s clearly a standout in their catalog.

4. Shotgun Rider (Freeways, 1977)

It’s hard rockin’ but also groovy. It’s pretty fun to listen to and definitely a must-have on your road trip playlist. It’s stuff like this that makes you think why BTO didn’t have the credit they truly deserved. It’s a memorable song and it packs a lot of punch.

3. Stayed Awake All Night (Bachman–Turner Overdrive, 1973)

It’s a killer track from the band’s self-titled debut album. It’s reminiscent of other ’70s rock bands. It’s fiery and a straightforward rock number.

2. Hold Back The Water (Bachman–Turner Overdrive, 1973)

Although no song in their debut album cracked the top 40, there are still several gems to be found including this. It’s no wonder why BTO has a cult following.

1. Down to the Line (Single, 1975)

This is the only non-album single they released. It shows the band’s musical reach but it was still a minor hit.
