To mark America’s 50th anniversary, they recently announced an eight-disc box set titled “Half Century” which will be out on June 20 via America Records. It features mixes, rare archival studio recordings, outtakes, memorabilia, replica posters, and book, to name a few.
Disc 1 includes previously unreleased demos from 1970. Disc 2 will have an on-air live recording in 1973 from Bremen, Germany. Discs 3, 4, and 5 have previously unreleased tracks associated with some of the band’s albums – 1976’s Hideaway, 1980’s Alibi, 1982’s View From The Ground, 1994’s Hourglass, and 1998’s Human Nature.
Discs 6 and 7 contain radio interviews from 1974 – 2000. Disc 8 will have previously unreleased home movies which is set “to give fans a behind the scenes look at the early years of this enduring band.”
According to co-founder Gerry Beckley, “I think that the ingredients of the America sound are the basic fundamentals that translate internationally. The Italians are huge fans of dance music, but they also love a ballad – they’re romantic at heart. It’s the same in the Far East. A lot of times in these countries, we see people singing along, and they don’t really know what the words mean. Music is truly the international language.”
“Half Century” Box Set is now available for pre-order.
