His Greatest Musical Achievement

“Blonde on Blonde” is the third of a trilogy of albums Bob Dylan churned out in the mid-’60s when he made the transition from folk to full-on rock. And it’s safe to say, he saved the best for last. This became the culmination that both “Bringing it All Back Home” and “Highway 61 Revisited” prepared all his listeners for.

“Blonde on Blonde” is “Highway 61 Revisited” but a hundred times better. It’s complex, inventive, revolutionary, and deep but more importantly, it moves you in ways you didn’t know possible – not with a rock ‘n roll record, at least. With a tight backing band that added more depth to the music, the LP became Dylan’s finest music moment. It’s lengthy but no one bothers with that because it’s brilliant from start to end.

The songwriting, musicianship, and delivery – Dylan’s at the height of his creative powers when he churned out this mammoth LP. Every song has its charm and allure – they shine individually but as a whole, it’s proof that Dylan’s an absolute force to be reckoned with. He mixed various styles and in the process, broke new sonic grounds.

It perfectly showcased his essence as an artist and musician. Dylan still released some great albums after but nothing else reached this level – “Blonde on Blonde” is a league of its own. As rock’s first double LP, it also became the standard by which all others were measured.

Highlights: Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35, Visions of Johanna, and Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again.

Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35

It may have been controversial because of the chorus but it’s a fun and charming song. It’s hard not to smile when Dylan laughs.

Visions of Johanna

It’s epic – in the truest sense of the word. One of his longest compositions but not one boring moment.

Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again

Another song clocking in at over seven minutes, it’s a beautiful piece hands down.
