It’s been 8 long years but finally, she’s back.
Annie Lennox returned this week with a brand new song, her first new music since her 2010 Christmas album, A Christmas Cornucopia. Titled “Requiem For A Private War,” the song finds Lennox paying tribute to late journalist Marie Colvin, whose life was brought to the silver screen last month in A Private War – a biopic about Colvin’s life and death as a foreign correspondent before being killed in 2012 while covering the siege of Homs, Syria.
A soaring, piano driven piece propelled by the ever-powerful Lennox, “Requiem For A Private War” holds all of the weight that a story like Colvin’s comes with. It’s life and death, fear and courage mixed with the truth that artists like Annie Lennox and journalists like Marie Colvin devote their lives to chasing, the perfect soundtrack to a story so powerful and shocking you’d truly have to see it to believe it.
Lucky for you, “Requiem For A Private War” comes with an equally stirring music video.
Cut with shots of Annie in the studio and scenes from A Private War, “Requiem For A Private War” as a music video gives you a glimpse into what it takes to put words to a story such as this. Annie Lennox’s tremendous gift for songwriting is never more apparent than when set against a film this big, this powerful, and serves as the perfect “welcome home” after 8 long years away.
Best all? Proceeds from sales of the song go to The Marie Colvin Journalists’ Network, an organization set up by Ms. Colvin’s family to support female journalists working in the Arab world.
