Surrey, March 1965
In March of 1965, late Beatle George Harrison and his wife Pattie Boyd converged on the Surrey home shared by John and Cynthia Lennon and their young son Julian for a day of fun and some recording and luckily, the magic of the day was caught on camera by world renowned photographer Henry Grossman, who captured some of John’s softer, more tender moments with Cynthia, Julian, and the Harrisons.
John, then 25 and at the height of his fame with The Beatles, looks much softer dressed in a pastel sweater, jeans, and boots, having abandoned his starched suits in favor of something more comfortable for a quiet day at home with family and friends. Seen cracking a few smiles and looking content as he lets his guard down around his loved ones, this is a side of John Lennon that we rarely got to see during his short life. Check it out in the photos below and join us in remembering a man who let us into his heart with some of the most brilliant songwriting the world’s ever seen, but who also struggled to let people see such a tender, vulnerable side of himself.
