3 Songs That Represent ‘Clouds’ By Joni Mitchell

Joni Mitchell showcased her artistry in her second studio album “Clouds”. Not only did she write all the songs, she also painted the self-portrait artwork cover herself. Compared to her debut LP, “Clouds” was more focused, cohesive, and showed a more confident Joni Mitchell. It’s quite a musical achievement for her and most of the songs have aged well.
While most fans and critics prefer “Blue” over “Clouds”, there’s no doubt that the latter spoke volumes of her immense talent. The songwriting, the vocals, and the delivery – this is Mitchell at her best. Admittedly, “Clouds” isn’t as sophisticated as “Blue” but it’s just as magical and enchanting. Mitchell has always been great at writing songs that resonate with the listeners and the songs on here are no exception.
Both Sides, Now
This remains one of her most iconic songs. It has stood the test of time and still captivates the listener no matter how many times you listen to it. Her singing is lovely and stunning, a definite highlight of the album.
The Fiddle and the Drum
No other song on the record showcased her beautiful voice like this. This a cappella number is just powerful.
Chelsea Morning
Another unforgettable song, it’s one of the brighter moments of “Clouds”. It’s light and puts you in a happy mood.
