Just Ask The Axis!

“Bold as Love” is the final song in The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s second studio album. The track opens abruptly and fades out in the end. It also has an extended solo and psychedelic chorus. This was composed by Jimi Hendrix and it discusses a wide array of colors.

The song’s coda features the first recording of stereo phasing. Numerous attempts at a basic rhythm track were undertaken before a satisfactory one was achieved on the 27th take.

  • The album peaked at number 3 in the US and number 5 in the UK

Though this was rarely a part of his repertoire, one notable performance was during a live show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It happened on February 28, 1968 where he improvised just after the opening of the song.

His guitar playing throughout the song is marked by chordal arpeggios and contrapuntal motion, with tremolo-picked partial chords providing the musical foundation for the chorus, which culminates in what musicologist Andy Aledort described as “simply one of the greatest electric guitar solos ever played.”

John Mayer recorded his cover version of the song. Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton were among his greatest influences in music. In fact, John decided to learn how to play the guitar after he heard Jimi’s “Little Wing.”

John did a great job at covering this amazing track!
