Merle Haggard, country music legend and pioneer of the outlaw country movement, has died at the age of 79.
The news was confirmed this morning by Haggard’s manager, who also confirmed that the singer died peacefully at his home in Bakersfield, California, surrounded by family. The cause of death is not known at this time, but according to various country music outlets, Merle suffered from a bout of pneumonia last year and never regained full health.
