Rip-offs, Coincidences, Or Homages?

This compilation is still subject to debate to be honest. We can’t be 100% certain that these are actual rip-offs. I mean, if you’re in the loop about the copyright issue between Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down”, Sam’s camp admitted that it was nothing more than “complete coincidence” and both parties eventually had an amicable settlement. And more recently, the legendary band Led Zeppelin are facing charges for copyright infringement of the opening riffs of their timeless classic “Stairway to Heaven” wherein judges ruled that there are notable similarities to the 1967 song “Taurus” by Spirit. Another similar case involved George Harrison and Ronnie Mack wherein the former was ordered to pay $1.5 million for “subconscious plagiarism” of Mack’s “You’re So Fine” for his song “My Sweet Lord.”

So you see, this scenario is pretty common in music. Some of it are honest mistakes and for others, well we can’t really speak for them. You be the judge.
