More Billboards Will Be Put Up
Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, and Jon Stewart are featured on 30 billboards across New Jersey donning face masks and telling people to “Wear a friggin’ mask!”
They’re part of the “Mask Up” campaign which was launched before Thanksgiving. The effort is spearheaded by New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy and the NJ Pandemic Relief Fund.
Springsteen tweeted, “Teamed up with some fellow New Jerseyans to encourage everyone this holiday season to wear a friggin’ mask. Let’s all come together and #MaskUpNJ so we can get back to what we do best – singing along and dancing together.”
In April, all three celebrities helped raise money for the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund through a televised benefit show. They have raised $39.5 million since its inception.
CEO of Interstate Outdoor Advertising Drew Katz told Variety, “It’s just overwhelming the amount of suffering that’s going on, separate and apart from the physical suffering that the virus has caused.” Murphy apparently contacted him just last November 20.
He added, “She said experts had told her that unless we get the message out during the holidays — that you need to continue to stay vigilant and wear your mask and socially distance yourself — more people are going to die, and asked us to help get the word out with a billboard campaign.”
