Along with ZZ Top‘s upcoming 11-track live album titled Raw, comes a new version of “Brown Sugar” accompanied by a music video.

ZZ Top premiered “Brown Sugar” recorded live from Gruene Hall in 2020. The track will be included on Raw, which is set for release on July 22. The upcoming LP was made in connection with ZZ Top’s 2019 Netflix documentary, That Little Ol’ Band From Texas, dedicated “in righteous memory of Dusty Hill” who died on July 27, 2021, at the age of 72.

Billy Gibbons said in a statement:

“‘Brown Sugar’ has been sweetening our concert sets for many decades now, so it seemed like the right song to kick off Raw,” Gibbons said in a statement.

“The Gruene Hall session was a satisfying return to our roots and a very special circumstance that we’re delighted to share with the friends and fans who have stuck with us all this time.”

Raw features the band’s original lineup Gibbons, Frank Beard and the late Dusty Hill. Aside from “Brown Sugar,” the LP includes signature hits such as “La Grange,” “Tush,” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” as well as “Certified Blues” from ZZ Top’s First Album.

ZZ Top will launch an extensive North American tour this summer called Raw Whisky on May 6 at Niagara Falls, and the trek will stretch through the summer until the end of August.

Gibbons and Beard will hit the road with longtime ZZ Top guitar tech Elwood Francis, who took the place of Hill on bass for the tour just as he did on the band’s shows last year.
