Tension In the Band

Any fan that was in the crowd that day could tell that Jimi did not have much enthusiasm to play this show. Even at his lowest level of energy, his mastered guitar skills did the talking for him as he shredded a 4 minute solo as if he could do it in his sleep, with a mellow hum.

You can really feel the tension between Jimi and Redding in this performance, avoiding all forms of contact with completely closed off body language.

At the time, Jimi was upsetting his bassist, Redding, with his worries and paranoid feelings despite his innate talents.

Redding ended up telling Jimi to “stuff it” after he left the band and flew back to England when Jimi wanted to expand the group.

In this video, Jimi claims to the crowd he wants to “slow it down a bit” and doesn’t seem to look up much or bring the crowd in, however, this is still an iconic performance from a musical genius that could make this instrument do and say anything he wanted.

+ Red House Lyrics +

There’s a Red House over yonder
That’s where my baby stays
There’s a Red House over yonder, baby
That’s where my baby stays

Well, I ain’t been home to see my baby,
in ninety nine and one half days.
‘Bout time I see her,
Wait a minute something’s wrong here
The key won’t unlock the door.

Wait a minute something’s wrong baby,
Lord, have mercy, this key won’t unlock this door,
something’s goin’ on here.
I have a bad bad feeling
that my baby don’t live here no more.

That’s all right, I still got my guitar
Look out now . . .

I might as well go on back down
go back ‘cross yonder over the hill
I might as well go back over yonder
way back over yonder ‘cross the hill,
(That’s where I came from.)

‘Cause if my baby don’t love me no more,
I know her sister will!
