Not All Covers Are Created Equal

Thanks to the internet, we now have access to countless cover versions of our favorite classic rock songs. And once in a while, we come across something that’s stellar and captivating. It’s our first time watching this performance from The Iron Cross and can we just say how much we’re looking forward to seeing them play on sold-out shows in the future?

Everyone delivered the goods but the Romanian guitar player, Andrei Cerbu, clearly stood out. He’s shredding it like it’s nobody’s business. And with that hair, he definitely looks like the younger version of Slash sans the top hat.

“Crazy Train” is the first single off Ozzy Osbourne’s debut solo album, Blizzard of Ozz. And it’s mostly known for that iconic riff thanks to guitar god Randy Rhoads. Bass player Bob Daisley told SongFacts, “Randy had the basic riff, the signature riff. Then we worked on music together. He needed something to solo on so I came up with a chord pattern and the section for him to solo over.

“Before it was called ‘Crazy Train,’ before we even had a title, Randy and I were working on the music. He had his effects pedals, and coming through his amp was a weird kind of chugging sound. It was a phase-y kind of psychedelic effect, this chugging sound that was coming through his amp from his effects pedal.”
