Rik Emmett, the guitarist and vocalist of the iconic band Triumph, recently shared updates on his health journey in a conversation with Nestor Aparicio, the founder of WNST and Baltimore Positive.

When asked about the possibility of returning to touring, Emmett expressed uncertainty due to his ongoing battle with arthritis in his hands, which may impact his ability to play. He also opened up about undergoing radiation treatment for prostate cancer, which has made the idea of traveling for performances less appealing.

Emmett emphasized the importance of early detection and urged men over 45 to undergo regular screenings for prostate cancer. He shared his own experience of completing radiation therapy on February 5, highlighting that early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment. This echoes the sentiments of other musicians like Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Tim Commerford of Rage Against the Machine, who have also spoken openly about their battles with prostate cancer.

Despite his health challenges, Emmett remains resilient. He departed from Triumph in 1988, pursuing a solo career, while the band continued briefly with a new guitarist before disbanding in 1993. After an 18-year estrangement, Emmett reunited with his former bandmates.

His memoir, “Lay It On The Line – A Backstage Pass To Rock Star Adventure, Conflict And Triumph,” offers a glimpse into his journey, shedding light on his personal and professional experiences.

Triumph, comprised of Gil Moore, Mike Levine, and Rik Emmett, gained fame for their unique blend of heavy rock and progressive themes. Despite their sudden breakup, the band remains beloved by fans, who continue to support them.

Emmett’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of perseverance and the power of music to overcome life’s challenges.
