Tommy Lee, the renowned drummer of Motley Crue, is experiencing a significant turnaround in his life after undergoing a crucial hand surgery.
Recently, he shared his journey on Instagram, revealing his struggle with a condition called Dupuytren’s contracture, which left his fingers permanently flexed. Alongside photos documenting his hand before, during, and after surgery, Lee expressed gratitude for the procedure that has restored functionality to his hand. He even shared a video of himself twirling drumsticks—a feat he hadn’t been able to accomplish for years.
In his Instagram post, Lee thanked Dr. Glenn Cohen, the surgeon who operated, for addressing the issues that had been hindering his ability to play the drums and keyboard, among other tasks requiring dexterity. He described the surgery as “monumental,” emphasizing how it has given him back his life and allowed him to regain control over his “money makers.”
Lee’s recovery comes just in time for Motley Crue’s upcoming tour, scheduled to kick off in May. The band has secured bookings for several performances across North America, including appearances at Welcome to Rockville, Summerfest 2024, and the Ottawa Bluesfest. Additionally, Motley Crue has been collaborating on new music with their longtime producer, Bob Rock, who previously worked on their hit album, Dr. Feelgood.
During a recent interview, Lee discussed how the band drew inspiration from their own experiences to create a song titled “Canceled,” reflecting on their resilience amidst various challenges. He recounted how Motley Crue managed to navigate through controversies and remained unscathed by cancel culture, inspiring them to craft a track encapsulating their defiance and survival in the music industry.
