Ozzy Osbourne emerged as the frontrunner in the initial week of fan voting for this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
As of Saturday morning, Osbourne, the legendary figure from Black Sabbath, had amassed 105,115 votes, placing him ahead of Peter Frampton (87,374), Foreigner (86,916), Dave Matthews Band (85,276), Cher (75,642), Lenny Kravitz (65,162), and Mariah Carey (55,036).
Following closely were Kool & the Gang (53,071), Oasis (48,494), Sinead O’Connor (38,606), Sade (36,210), Jane’s Addiction (35,677), Mary J. Blige (28,091), A Tribe Called Quest (21,778), and Eric B and Rakim (13,250).
The total count surpassed 835,000 votes since voting commenced on Feb. 10. Fans have the opportunity to vote for seven artists daily until April 26, with the latest standings accessible on the Rock Hall website. You can also cast your vote there.
Mixed Reactions to Rock Hall Nominations
Osbourne, who had previously expressed skepticism about Hall of Fame inductions, particularly after Black Sabbath’s 2006 induction, remarked differently upon being shortlisted for 2024.
He stated:
“I’m deeply honored… To be one of the few musicians who’s being considered for a second entry, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined. After 44 years as a solo artist, the fact that I can continue to record music and receive this recognition is something I am incredibly proud of.”
In contrast, Liam Gallagher of Oasis responded to their nomination with, “Fuck the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” Similarly, Cher bluntly stated:
“I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars… I’m never changing my mind. They can just go you-know-what-themselves.”
