There was still so much more….

It’s been a rough week, and on Monday rock n’ roll lost one of its greatest legends of all-time: Tom Petty. Tom went into cardiac arrest in the early morning hours of October 2nd, and after a weird day of confusion surrounding his death, it was finally confirmed that night that he did die. He was 66.

Days before his passing Petty sat down with the Los Angeles Times, which, unfortunately, proved to be his final interview. The saddest part about the interview, is that Petty seemed so optimistic about the future. Even though he had just wrapped up his 40th anniversary tour at the Hollywood Bowl a week prior, Tom had a lot planned for the future.

He was set to produce the second album for the LA rock band The Shelter. He loved them, and looked forward to help them kick their career into high gear. He also had bright plans for his Sirius XM radio station. He had a show on there called “Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure,” which he hosted, and would personally pick his favorite songs to be played for the world to hear.

As for the Heartbreakers, Petty assured they had no intentions of stopping soon, and actually said something, that sounds incredibly eerie looking back.

If one of us went down, or if one of us died — God forbid — or got sick…We’re all older now…Then we’d stop. I think that would be the end of it, if someone couldn’t do it. On the back side of your 60s, most people aren’t working. This keeps us young. I think it keeps me young. When I see people I knew from earlier in life and I run into them now, they’re very different than me. And they look different. I think this has kept us all thinking young and feeling young. It is grueling to do a very, very long one,” he said. “This was quite a long one. It’s sometimes physically hard. But then the lights go down, you hear the crowd and you’re all better. You feel like, ‘OK, let’s do it.’“- Petty said.
