Mama, Take This Badge Off Of Me…

Bob Dylan’s appearance on MTV Unplugged featured a soul-stirring acoustic rendition of the 1973 classic ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’ that sends chills down your spine from the very first note! Dylan has this magnetism that makes you sit up and pay attention, and this performance is no different; the live, intimate setting gives ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’ a little more emotionality and at times it seems that even Bob is swept up in his own song.

This song is musically similar to Neil Young’s ‘Helpless,’ which was recorded in 1969 and features on the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young album, Déjà Vu.

Apparently, we weren’t the only ones who fell in love with this performance: Bob’s 1994 album MTV Unplugged was a live recording of the entire performance, and was so well received that as a result it gave Dylan his best sales in years, reaching US #23 and going gold, while hitting #10 in the UK.

Since its 1973 release, ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’ has been covered by everyone from Guns N’ Roses to Warren Zevon with each cover reaching no less than the #1 slot on the charts!
