Lars Ulrich Posts Throwback Photo With Avengers: Endgame Star
It’s officially #ThrowbackThursday, and one member of Metallica is celebrating in the most rockstar way possible: with a throwback photo featuring one of the Marvel Universe’s biggest stars.
In a photo shared to Instagram, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich took it way, way back with a photo of himself with bandmate Rob Trujillo, Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell, Eddie Van Halen, and special guest Robert Downey, Jr. – whose character Tony Stark, by the way, loves all things heavy metal:
Taken in 2009 at the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards show in Los Angeles, the photo gives an interesting glimpse into the worlds of film and music and how closely connected they are, even if it doesn’t always seem like it. Metallica had just won the award for “Ballsiest Band,” while Downey was riding the wave of one of the greatest Hollywood comeback stories in recent memory, having starred in The Soloist, Sherlock Holmes, Iron Man, and Tropic Thunder all in the past 12 months.
Revealing that he received it from Trujillo, Lars captioned the photo, “Check out this crazy cool crew…Trujillo just sent me this picture today and reminded me of a way fun night we had at the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards show in LA in May 2009… we collected the “Ballsiest Band” award (!!) Good times! ?? #wanna.”

Pretty rad photo, right? Gotta love it when you find out that your favorite bands are good friends with your favorite actors. With Avengers: Endgame only a few weeks out, who knows – maybe we’ll get to hear a little Metallica somewhere in the film, complete with Tony making some sort of tongue in cheek joke about Lars!
