The Kinks perform ‘All Day and All of the Night’ on live television!

Did The Kinks pave the way for future “pop punk” bands?

Ray Davies explained: “All Day” was originally rejected by his record company- calling it “Too blue-collar, and too working-class“.

The single reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 7 on US Billboard Chart.

After The Kinks had their first major hit with “You Really Got Me“, they found themselves being pressured by their record company to follow up their hits quickly.

Lead singer Ray Davies described this as an “assembly line” of songs. Lucky for the band, the strategy worked well. The sound alike track scored them another hit.

In spite of the labels executives calling their guitar sound trashy, and “like a barking dog“- There’s no doubt this song inspired quite a few future punk and pop guitarists.

Watch while Davies rocks out in hyper mode throughout the duration this video- it’s no surprise they made an impact.
