A woman who stumbled upon Paul McCartney’s missing bass guitar is now anticipating a possible reward for its return.

The bass guitar, known for its significant role in recording several Beatles classics, went missing from McCartney’s possession back in 1972. However, it resurfaced last week when Cathy Guest discovered it tucked away in her attic following her husband’s passing. Guest suspects her husband, Hadyn, inherited the bass from his brother Graham.

In an interview with The Sun, Guest shared that she included a handwritten note in the guitar case, explaining her situation as a single parent caring for two children. She expressed her love for music, mentioning that both she and her husband enjoyed playing various instruments at home.

Guest mentioned that McCartney’s team had contacted her, expressing gratitude for the safe return of the bass and hinting at a potential reward. She emphasized the historical significance of the instrument and its association with a renowned figure like McCartney.

A statement on McCartney’s website confirmed the return of his 1961 Höfner 500/1 bass guitar, expressing his gratitude to everyone involved in the recovery process. This particular bass holds sentimental value as it was McCartney’s first bass purchase back in 1961 during his time in Hamburg, Germany.

Initially believed to have vanished during The Beatles’ London recording sessions in January 1969, investigations by the Lost Bass Project revealed that it was stolen three years later.

The Höfner bass, now back in McCartney’s possession, holds a special place in music history, contributing to iconic tracks like ‘Love Me Do’, ‘She Loves You’, and ‘Twist and Shout.’
