Alex Van Halen is set to release a memoir titled Brothers which mainly focuses on his relationship with his late younger brother and bandmate Eddie Van Halen.
According to Alex’s publisher, HarperCollins, the book is scheduled to come out on Oct. 22,. It will be available as a 384-page hardcover, a 720-minute audiobook and an ebook.
The preview of the book displayed an alternative title The Brothers Van Halen. Moreover, the memoir talks about how young Alex and Eddie started to play each other’s instruments before swapping gears and putting their first band together in fourth grade.
Before becoming Van Halen, the duo formed Mammoth in 1972, and upon meeting David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony, they changed the band name into what soon became one of rock’s legendary acts. In a 2021 interview, Alex said:
“After we honed our skills, you learn the connection between the people and the music.
“Playing live, there should be no dead space. Never turn your back on the audience and never insult them. They are equal to you.
“That line that separates the audience from the stage, that’s not a line. That’s just to keep them from puking on your shit! You’re there to make the audience feel good.”
Alex’s Involvement In The EVH Tributes
Eddie passed away in 2020. In a statement, Alex said:
“There’s nothing left in the music business. It’s a bunch of ones and zeroes. In the old days you’d get a dollar a record, and now you get 50 cents for 275,000 streams. It’s insane. It’s wrong. Now the only thing you have is playing live, which is ironic, because that’s how it all started.”
More recently, one of Van Halen’s former singers, Sammy Hagar, mentioned why he thinks Alex doesn’t get involved with the tributes. He said:
“You know, he, I guess, just doesn’t like playing without his brother. Don’t blame him. God bless him.”
