Just Beautiful
Though there are several covers for “Summertime,” perhaps even reaching more than 2000 recordings, the version of Janis Joplin in collaboration with Big Brother and the Holding Company is possibly among the most popular.
This is absolutely memorable since not only did she perform this during the 1969 Woodstock Festival but also during her concert in Boston on August 12, 1970. It was actually the last song in her track list. She played with the Full Tilt Boogie Band at the Harvard Stadium.
“Music’s for grooving man, and music’s not for puttin’ yourself through bad changes, y’know? I mean, you don’t have to go take anybody’s shit, man, just to like music, y’know what I mean? You don’t. So… so if you’re getting’ more shit than you deserve, you know what to do about it man. Y’know, it’s just music. Music’s… music’s s’posed to be different than that.” – Janis Joplin
It was given a front-page review filled with several positive feedback. It’s considered memorable since it was her last public performance.
