The Beatles – ‘Yesterday’

3,000 Covers Can’t Be Wrong!
I love ‘Yesterday’ by The Beatles. It forces you to stop and think back on your life, and the melancholy tone makes it easy to empathize with Paul McCartney’s lyrics. It’s their biggest masterpiece and the simplest Beatles tune by far, using only Paul’s voice and an acoustic guitar, with a small string section playing the harmony.
‘Yesterday’ was the first Beatles song that could not be reproduced live without additional musicians. When they played it live, including their famous Shea Stadium concert, it was just McCartney with an acoustic guitar.
Simple, yet effective! I love that this song heralds the first time we’re able to see the individual talents of each of the Beatles!
This is the most covered pop song of all time, over 3,000 versions recorded according to The Guinness Book Of World Records.
As hauntingly beautiful as ‘Yesterday’ is, 3,000 covers of this iconic song can’t be wrong!
+ Yesterday lyrics +
Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they’re here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Suddenly I’m not half the man I used to be
There’s a shadow hanging over me
Oh, yesterday came suddenly
Why she had to go, I don’t know, she wouldn’t say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday
Yesterday love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Why she had to go, I don’t know, she wouldn’t say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday
Yesterday love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday
