The Beatles – ‘Ticket To Ride’

The Beatles – ‘Ticket To Ride’ | Society Of Rock Videos

One Song, So Many Firsts!

The Beatles were incredibly innovative and far, far ahead of their time. When ‘Ticket To Ride’ was released in 1965 as part of both the movie Help! and featured on the album Help!, The Beatles had several milestones under their belts just from this one song!

  • Their performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1965, featuring ‘Ticket To Ride’ was the last ever to air in black and white.
  • ‘Ticket To Ride’ was the first Beatles song that ran over 3 minutes, setting the tone for all future Beatles songs.
  • This was the first time we heard Paul McCartney play a 6 string guitar on an album! That brief solo was him!

The song, about a man watching the woman he loves ride away into the sunset, manages to be both catchy and complicated at the same time. The distinctive staccato drum pattern for this song alone is the complicated result of drummer Ringo Starr trying as a left handed drummer to drum strictly right handed!

I love when little nuances come together in the perfect storm!

+ Ticket To Ride lyrics +

I think I’m gonna be sad
I think it’s today, yeah
The girl that’s driving me mad
Is going away

She’s got a ticket to ride
She’s got a ticket to ride
She’s got a ticket to ride
But she don’t care

She said that living with me
Is bringing her down, yeah
For she would never be free
When I was around

She’s got a ticket to ride
She’s got a ticket to ride
She’s got a ticket to ride
But she don’t care

I don’t know why she’s riding so high
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me
Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me

I think I’m gonna be sad
I think it’s today, yeah
The girl that’s driving me mad
Is going away, yeah

Oh, she’s got a ticket to ride
She’s got a ticket to ride
She’s got a ticket to ride
But she don’t care

I don’t know why she’s riding so high
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me
Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think twice
She ought to do right by me

She said that living with me
Is bringing her down, yeah
For she would never be free
When I was around

Ah, she’s got a ticket to ride
She’s got a ticket to ride
She’s got a ticket to ride
But she don’t care

My baby don’t care, my baby don’t care
My baby don’t care, my baby don’t care
My baby don’t care, my baby don’t care
