The Beatles – ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ Live on Ed Sullivan!
The British Invasion Hits Ed Sullivan!
This is amazing. We’re literally watching a major cultural shift take place as The Beatles perform ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ on Ed Sullivan – their very first American performance, and the day Beatlemania was born!
‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ was dismissed initially as a fad, with people saying the catchy tune wouldn’t stand the test of time.
That was 58 years ago, and ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ still stands up to the test of time! Bob Dylan even endorsed the 4 lads from Liverpool, saying:
“They were doing things nobody was doing. Their chords were outrageous, just outrageous, and their harmonies made it all valid.”
I wish I’d been around to experience Beatlemania as it was born on Ed Sullivan back in 1964. However, I think amazing footage like this still manages to capture the magic of rock and roll’s evolution from bobby sox and poodle skirts, to Beatle haircuts and outrageous chords!
+ I Wanna Hold Your Hand lyrics +
Oh yeah I’ll tell you something
I think you’ll understand
When I say that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
Oh please say to me
You’ll let me be your man
And please say to me
You’ll let me hold your hand
Now let me hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
And when I touch you I feel happy inside
It’s such a feeling that my love
I can’t hide, I can’t hide, I can’t hide
Yeah, you got that something
I think you’ll understand
When I say that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
And when I touch you I feel happy inside
It’s such a feeling that my love
I can’t hide, I can’t hide, I can’t hide
Yeah you, got that something
I think you’ll understand
When I feel that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
