The Beatles were as close to musical geniuses as a band could get, and for that reason I think it’s difficult to imagine them as just four young guys who loved playing music and at one time, loved playing music together. This archival footage of the guys recording the iconic ‘Hey Jude’ is a great reminder of that fact – they’re having such a fantastic time feeding off of each other’s creativity, and that kind of passion is contagious!
Behind The Scenes Of ‘Hey Jude’
The Beatles recorded 25 takes of ‘Hey Jude’ at Abbey Road Studios in two nights. It became the first single from the Beatles’ record label Apple Records, and the first song in their catalog to run over 7 minutes long.
While this video doesn’t give us the final, polished version that has become a legend in its own right, it does feature snippets of what went on at Abbey Road Studios over the course of those two nights as they recorded ‘Hey Jude’.
For the first time, we get to see the silliness and sweat that went into the making of a legend, and the fun little bits and pieces that we’ve heard so many stories about but have never heard until now!
