I don’t want to lose this feeling

A song written by Clapton on “Layla” NOT about Pattie Boyd!?

As explained by Derek and The Domino’s band member- Bobby Whitlockhe:

The band was in France when the inspiration for this song hit. “Eric met this girl, she was like a Persian princess or something, and she wore bell bottoms– he gave her a slide and she wore it around her neck. She didn’t speak a word of English and they had to date through an interpreter.

The relationship did not last a week, but Eric an Bobby began to pen the song in France. Upon their return to England, they finished the song.

Bell Bottom Blues facts!

  • Clapton recorded most of this while lying on the floor and strung out on drugs. Clapton feels it did not hurt the recording process.
  • This was released as the B-side of “Layla.” The song “Layla” is about Clapton’s love for Pattie Harrison, who at the time was married to George Harrison.
  • This is the only studio album Derek and the Dominos recorded. They attempted another, but the sessions imploded over what Whitlock describes as “Ego Problems.”
  • The entire album was recorded in 10 days.

+Bell Bottom Blues lyrics below+

Bell bottom blues, you made me cry.
I don’t want to lose this feeling.
And if I could choose a place to die
It would be in your arms.
Do you want to see me crawl across the floor to you?
Do you want to hear me beg you to take me back?
I’d gladly do it because
I don’t want to fade away.
Give me one more day, please.
I don’t want to fade away.
In your heart I want to stay.

It’s all wrong, but it’s all right.
The way that you treat me baby.
Once I was strong but I lost the fight.
You won’t find a better loser.

Bell bottom blues, don’t say goodbye.
I’m sure we’re gonna meet again,
And if we do, don’t you be surprised
If you find me with another lover.

I don’t want to fade away.
Give me one more day please.
I don’t want to fade away.
In your heart I long to stay.
