From band, The Alan Parsons Project‘s sixth studio album, Eye In The Sky, this particular tune became the band’s only top 10 hit from the 70’s and 80’s reaching number #3 in 1982. With subtle arguments over the meaning behind the lyrics, the band has never openly admitted that the words have anything to do with George Orwell’s 1984, but it is rumored to be true.

Interesting Fact: Parsons didn’t think highly of this song and had to be convinced to put it on the album. As Woolfson tells it, he and the other musicians loved the song, but Parsons thought so little of it that he bet their guitarist Ian Bairnson that it would not be a hit.

Band manager and lyricist of the band, Eric Woolfson, performed lead vocals on this melodic shooting star back in ’82 and decided to bring back the unforgettable hit again in 2004. Proving that age is just a number, Eric sounds absolutely incredible in this live reunion performance as he brings the crowd along with him on his intense, lyrical journey.
