LA Teen Family Band Joins Forces With Legendary Drummer

Fresh out of Downey, California, teen family band Liliac definitely ain’t your mama’s Partridge Family!

Comprised of siblings Samuel, Abigail, Melody, Ethan and Justin Cristea, Liliac started 2019 with a bang, inching ever closer to the big time as they prepare for the release of their new album Chain of Thorns, due out January 25th.

Their weekly performances at the Santa Monica Pier remain a favorite for locals turning out in search of sun and fun on Saturday afternoons, but one Saturday last summer proved to be unlike any other when The Police’s Stewart Copeland stumbled across Liliac’s performance, setting the scene for what became quickly became a once in a lifetime opportunity for the band.

When Copeland discovered Liliac and their high energy drummer Abigail, 17, on the Santa Monica Pier that day, he said bemusedly, “I thought I was a good drummer, until I saw her play.” From there, it was off to the races; he jumped in on a few songs, alternating between guitar and drums and stuck around to sign drum heads and take photos with the band and their parents, Florin and Nineta, who faithfully keep Liliac running like a finely oiled machine.

Now, Liliac are getting ready for their moment in the spotlight.

On Friday, January 11th at 9pm, they’ll be appearing on Copeland’s BBC documentary On Drums…Stewart Copeland! – a program that finds the 66 year old drummer exploring drumming as the force behind modern musical evolution. Liliac will be in good company on Copeland’s special, which also features some of the most inspiring drummers of the last 50 years including The Doors’ John Densmore, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sheila E., New Order’s Stephen Morris and the Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins. You can also catch Liliac live at NAMM on January 25th, where they’ll be performing at 2pm in celebration of their brand new album Chain of Thorns, available that day for digital downloads and streaming on iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify.

Tune in to the BBC at 9pm on Friday, January 11th to see Liliac and Stewart Copeland together on the small screen – this is a must watch event, and it’s not every day that you can say you watched the rise of the next great American rock band as it happened in real time!
